Buy what you want- and pay less for it

Negotiate. Many times you can get a discount even when something isn't on sale. Instead of asking for a specific amount off, ask "Can i get a better price?" It isn't out of line to ask this even in most big department stores.

Know sales calendars. Activewear is usually on sale between january and March because that is when new styles come in. Air conditioners are on sale in the winter. Summer clothes go on sale in early July. Plan ahead.

Know your product. Research the prices and quality of the items you are intrested in.

Don't be taken in by bells and whistles. Figure out which features are worth paying extra for.

Be polite. You have a much better chance of getting what you want if you are courteous.

Be firm. Don't give in to pressure from the salesperson. Write down on a piece of paper what you can afford to pay and carry that paper in your pocket. Stick to it.

Remember, just because you've used something doesn't mean you can't return it if you aren't satisified with it.
